I attended University around the corner from Johnny Rockets and have always walked past this joint, always peeping at their menu stuck up along the windows. Cheesy, greasy goodness. A 50's diner along with waitresses to match. There were also mini jukeboxes against the wall at a few of the booths. I happily looked at the menu. Meals starting from $12, each burger was served with fries, salad or soup.

I thought it was fantastic, individually plastic wrapped straws!

Say Hello to my all-time favourite: The Spinach, Cheese and Egg Roll!

I love love love pastry sheets and their possibilities. I've always only made savoury treats with these but I have always wanted to venture out to satisfy my sweet tooth side! Maybe one day ☺.

I'm so use to shopping in Sydney... And knowing exactly where to buy all my goods for my usual pastry treats. It was pretty disappointing walking into my local grocers (Fresh Co) and not finding the Frozen Spinach and usual Pastry Sheets I've always been use to. So, this time around I am using Filo Pastry and fresh Spinach.

I have also created a recipe on sausage rolls, here.

There are no exact measurements, adjust as you go! You don't need to use eggs, it's just a filler for me since I don't want to have as much cheese. I will be listing substitutes along the way. Super easy and you can add anything, really!

Seated down my first time round' here with my sister, she was first to tell me of their $4.25 Roast Pork with Rice. Roast Pork.....?!!!! I haven't had such goodness in well over half a year, and I was surprised that my sister was going to let me choose such a fatty meal. We entered House of Gourmet, and I already loved the place. I loved how there were three boards in English along one side of the wall showing the specials and the other side having some menu options in Chinese up. The second thing that stood out to me, was their sparkly tables! My favourite! I haven't seen anything like it. We ordered, and my sister had Congee and Ginger since she was sick, and I got my delicious bowl of Roast Pork and Rice, and we ordered Rice Noodle Rolls for sides. 

There is no place I've ever walked into in Sydney like this. Another plus, they also have a pretty damn good name. And for the second time around here, was this glorious evening of our spontaneous (or maybe not) dinner out - I was expecting a Cobb Salad for dinner :p!

Also, what made me want to come back the first time around, was this three sided laminated informative goodness sitting at the end of the table. I love love love little restaurant 'specials' at certain times of the day! I was super doooper keen on trying the 'Tea Break', and adding $1 for one of their extensive list of cold drinks! And, if you know me, you'd know that I love Asian sweets and I HAVE to try a new one each time!!!! Excited to drop by for Tea Break once my Sister is out of town ☺.

With so many Lebanese restaurants in Toronto, I have not seen a Snackpack on a menu nor does anyone understand what I'm on about! What is a Snackpack you ask me????! Only the greatest thing ever. Shaved beef/lamb topped with your choice of sauces (my favourites are garlic and chili sauce) on a bed of hot crispy chips with a generous helping of melted cheese across the top. So simple yet so incredible...

I bitterly accepted the fact that I will no longer be able to have that familiar toasty styrofoam box of my ideal Snackpack in my little hands for a long while and added this to my list of reasons of why Canada sucks.

Now, I'm sure all the Tumblr-ers out there have come across a picture of a Poutine one time or another. I didn't even know that it was one of Canada's delicacies! I have seen this chip, gravy and cheesy goodness pop-up multiple times on my Tumblr dashboard - examples - here, here and here.

I've wanted to try a good ol' Canadian Poutine since I landed. I went to Lakeview for my first Poutine experience ever. And it was terrible. I had a two month recovery period before I was willing to try another Poutine. 

For the past week, I've extensively been looking into the best Poutines in Toronto, and what makes a good Poutine? Squeaky curds and amazing gravy to match, I hear! I had two Poutineries by me - Poutini's House of Poutine and Smoke's Poutinerie. Both of high rating - I was particularly eyeballing the Bacon Cheeseburger from Smoke's (Yum!). A short walk down to Poutini's, my sister and I ordered a lil sum'in sum'in each.

I loved the feel, felt very... Canadian-y (giggles). They were also blasting hard techno music - I was just waiting for one of the two workers to break out into a hakken.

Our hand-cut chips fried, cold cheese curds topped along with gravy and additional toppings for my The Works poutine of sour cream, bacon and chives sprinkled over.

I am determined that there are so many cheap treasures here in Toronto. These numbers

on Urbanspoon ain't even cutting it! Service, is, to be honest - at the bottom of my list. Fresh off the bat, for me, it's Cleanliness, Food, Value then, Service - which explains why I don't talk about it too much compared to other Food Bloggers out there. Having been dining in the Sydney West areas growing up, it's not surprising to not receive mid-meal check-ups and a conversation.

My sister and I were still full up to the arvo after the feast at my Uncle's house. It was 2:30, walking down Queen Street and we were popping into shops on the way down to Eaton's, looking for a place to eat.

We were attracted by two A4 sheets stuck outside a restaurant window. But I, mainly appealed to the '$7.99'.

I don't know my laos food so well after all - my Uncle invited everyone over, catering for 70 people but feeding 30. There was so many delicious trays of food! Bear with me, I only know half the names of these.

Dish names please if you know them :)!

'Lunch Prix Fixe'. My first week in Canada and this is the first time I've heard this term, I am in love with it. 

This Lunch Prix Fixe especially, has two options of a salad, pizza and dessert! And all for $15. Which is pretty sweet.

One of the many Dim Sim places on Spadina's strip, La Casita is one of the lesser known ones. I was sick of going to Dim Sim King and Rosewood all of the time and felt that there must be some more hidden Dim Sim gems throughout Spadina. So we found ourselves infront of La Casita.

This place doesn't even sound Chinese. We were reassured by the next two words of the restaurant name.

Oh, Tumblr. Why have you built my expectations for poutine so high? After a fail entry into The Night at ROM, I just wanted a plate of greasy, tasty and fattening (but worth it) poutine to share. Heading towards House of Poutine, Lakeview was quickly suggested. Described as 'nicer' dining than the usual...  But, oh, nope. All sorts of wrong.

"Ten minutes til' closing." Dammit. Are you serious? We just got here. The night before our Marketing exam and we needed a well-lit place to sit at to cram the rest of the Marketing chapters.

I was of course, clueless and useless when it comes to places in the area. So relying on my friend's knowledge, we found ourselves at a 24/7 diner, Fran's. I was pretty excited. There aren't many 24/7 diners in Sydney, and after a google search, I found that there were quite a number in Toronto! Just like City Extra, they serve their breakfast menu all day, everyday!

Ever since my first meal at a Vietnamese restaurant in Toronto, I've expected nothing but the best!

Waling past this place countless times, heading to Chinatown or back, they always had some sort of special scribbled onto a chalkboard stilt on a certain hour of any other day. We were finally fully enticed to walk in when we were halted at the sight of their '$1 Buck a Shuck' scribbled on the stilt.
